Gum Grafts
Gum recession, or "long tooth syndrome" can be the result of many different processes. The most common causes of gum recession range from periodontal disease to aggressive brushing technique. This condition can be corrected with a gum graft using the patients own gum or a Tissue Allograft. In most instances, a procedure known a "tunneling", which is a microsurgical technique designed to reduce patient discomfort (using tissue from a tissue bank) can be done.
Why is it important to treat recession? - Aside from being an esthetic issue that can affect your smile, ultimately recession means that the bone on that tooth has also receded-disolved. While the soft tissue associated with recession can be treated, it is very difficult to replace "bony" support to a tooth. Treating recession early helps to guard against future recession and ultimately further bone loss.
